Known by the pseudonym “Caramba”, he was a caricaturist, journalist, costume designer.
Since 1921 and until his death, he was artistic director of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, nicknamed “il mago della Scala” (the wizard of the Scala) for his extraordinary organizational skills.
He wanted to be buried in Turin, beside his wife.
