Giuseppe Edmondo HESS - Born in Turin on April 4, 1885. Died in Turin on June 19, 1967.
He was born in Turin to a father from Rhenish Prussia and a mother from Frankfurt. He graduated from the Massimo D’Azeglio gymnasium in 1903, together with the boys who founded Juventus. At only 15 years of age, he founded his own football club, then moved on to Juve where he was captain of the third category team: hard worker, he worked hard in training and was thus called up to second where he won the 1905 championship together with his teammates.
To better improve his skills, he goes to England for a year, with excellent profit. From opponents he is considered one who loves to play heavy and so they give him the unedifying title of "maslé" (butcher in Piedmontese). In 1908 he went to Milan and for that season he played for the U.S. Milanese, to return immediately to Turin in his Juve. He hung up his shoes early in 1912 with few appearances in the first team, in the meantime he completed his studies and became a lawyer. He joined the Juventus management and was elected President the following year. Without moving from Milan, he directs the Company excellently, albeit in a difficult moment, thanks to the support of his Deputy, engineer Collino, and to the trusted Armano. He ceases to live at 82 years old. His grave has an important characteristic: it is the only one in those present in this cemetery that has a caption in the tombstone that recalls his glorious Juventus past.
