Walter MARTINY- Born in Turin in 1887. Died in Turin on June 5, 1957.
Walter Martiny was a young man with far-sighted views when at the age of sixteen he decides to invest his finances (belongs to a wealthy family) in the construction of a small factory for the production of rubber articles, mainly boots. The new automotive industry is absorbing an increasing demand for tires and Martiny is ready: it takes over some warehouses in the Borgo Vittoria area and starts a first production chain. He goes to war in the aviator battalion. In the 1920s he became a Member of Juventus and was appointed Vice President. It has an important role in society, attending all the sessions. In the same period he decided to direct his production mainly towards sports and leisure items. He specializes in footwear for tennis, basketball and gymnastics, and in 1934 he founded the Superga brand. A brand that resists over time, despite the increasingly fierce competition, to produce an entire range of sportswear for twenty years. Walter Martiny dies at the age of 70, avoiding to see the decay and subsequent bankruptcy of his company.
