Opening on 29 October 2026 in Dresden, the multidisciplinary exhibition DER AUFTAKT (The Beginning) will investigate the fragile space where remembrance intersects with forgetting.

Hosted by Women in Remembrance Culture e.V. (WIRC)—an organization established in 2025 to elevate long-overlooked female contributions in German and international Cultures of Remembrance—the exhibition will blend artistic expression and activism to build a more balanced collective memory.

The event will start at 18:00 at Oschatzer Straße 7, showcasing diverse projects by four featured artists:

  • Natalia Bougai will present The Red Evening, an immersive audio-visual performance transforming her late father's family photos into a deeply personal, cross-generational reflection.
  • Susan Donath will highlight archived postcards documenting historic synagogues, preserving vital visual records of lost heritage.
  • Valérie Madoka Naito will contribute an intimate documentary capturing Donath's ongoing care for a bilingual gravestone in Ústí nad Labem, tracing forgotten post-WWII histories.
  • Heike Richter will draw attention to neglected monuments, focusing on the story of Jewish survivor Eugen Kornblum to argue for the preservation of expiring burial sites.
