To retain the label of Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, European Cemeteries Route has been evaluated in the framework of a three-year evaluation-cycle by European Institute of Cultural Routes.
Evaluation process
Every three years, the Governing Board of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA) meets to renew the certification "Cultural Route of the Council of Europe” to networks, such as the European Cemeteries Route.
The certificate renewal is the last step in the more than 6-month long evaluation process which is intended for checking out the quality of the routes work, adaptation of their program values and compliance with criteria to use the label of Cultural Route of Europe.
In 2021 our route was evaluated by the external evaluator Mrs Ksenija Keča. Her in-depth examination of our work and activities highlighted many outstanding features of our work and helped identifiy some possible improvements, mainly in terms of official partnerships growth within research and tourism sector.
Certified as Cultural Route of the Council of Europe
The final step of the evaluation took place on 5 and 6 May 2022, in Luxembourg.
The president of the Association of Significant Cemeteries in Europe, Lidija Pliberšek, and the European Cemeteries Route manager, Dušan Vrban defended the findings from the report on evalution of our route in front of the Governing board of EPA.
European Cemeteries Route has successfully passed the evaluation and, by meeting all the required criteria, obtained the right to further use the label Cultural Route of the Council of Europe.
