The Week of Discovering European Cemeteries 2025 will take place from 30 May to 5 June, offering a unique opportunity to explore the cultural and social significance of cemeteries across Europe.
This year’s theme, "Gardens of 80", commemorates 80 years of peace since the end of World War II. It aligns with Goal 16 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development—Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions—and forms part of the broader ASCE initiative "Significant Cemeteries for Sustainable Europe".
As part of this theme, participants are invited to identify and share 80 stories, individuals, monuments, or spaces within their local cemeteries that reflect efforts toward peace, inclusion, and justice. Contributions can be presented through exhibitions, guided tours, installations, specially designated green spaces, and more, forming symbolic gardens of remembrance and reflection. Together, they support the development of strong, inclusive societies grounded in historical awareness and civic responsibility.
