Vilhelm Moberg (1898 – 1973)

A famous author, journalist, playwright and historian most known for his 1950s novel series The Emigrants. The series consisting of four books describes the tough travels of impoverished and desperate Swedish farmers to a new and better future in America. To date over two million copies of the novels have been sold in Sweden. The novels have also been translated in to twenty languages.

Moberg was a strong opponent to the totalitarian movements from the time of the Second World War and was very vocal in his opposition against the lack of Swedish resistance towards Nazi Germany.

Moberg died in 1973 and now rests with his wife and two children at the Northern Cemetery. Their grave is marked with a red granite stone and on the stone you can find their signatures which are carved and painted gold.
