Ivar Kreuger (1880 – 1332)

Civil engineer, financier, entrepreneur. Most known for creating matchsticks and was known as the “Match King”. He also built a financial empire where he negotiated match monopolies controlling the most part of the world’s match production.

Kreuger’s financial empire including banks, real estate, pulp industries and a gold mine, buckled during the great depression. His suspicious death in Paris in 1932 caused the downfall of his entire empire, which then caused many economic repercussions around the globe.

Another interesting fact about Kreuger was that he co-founded the construction company Kreuger & Toll Byggnads AB, which specialized in new building techniques. The company was given the commission to build the Stockholm Stadium, the world's oldest active sports arena, designed by the architect Torben Grut.

Kreuger is buried here in the family vault.
