Tomb Balduino

Sculptor G. Gaggini 1853

The monument testifies the social importance of the deceased, who was a senator of the Realm, Knight of St. Mauritius, shrewd in commerce and navigation. He is  portrayed wrapped in a toga and leaning at the helm while sitting  enthroned atop a tall pedestal decorated with classical symbols: tritons, pegasi, balances. The sculptor, Giuseppe Gaggini, one of the masters of the Classicism, taught at the Accademia Ligustica in Genoa and later at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, where he was summoned by the court of Savoy.
